All parts of the world have recognized that basic education has played a very important role in the social economic development and have developed large-scale basic educational reform one after another in pace with the coming of knowledge economy and the amazing development of science and technology. Curriculum is the centre of education. During the basic educational reform, all parts of the world have regarded the curriculum reform as a very important part of the educational reform. The curriculum building is also the key to the curriculum reform. Stepping into the new century, China and Japan pursued a new Curriculum Program almost at the same time, facing to the requirements of and challenge to qualified personnel in view of globalization and internationalization. This thesis just wants to compare the similarities and differences between the ideas, the curriculum buildings, the curriculum structures and the credit systems which are closely related to the curriculum buildings of the two countries' new curricula of senior high school.This thesis will take up the following four aspects one by one. Firstly, it expounds the importance, significance and reason of comparative research on Chinese-Japanese new curriculum building of senior high school. Secondly, this thesis explores the similarities and differences between the ideas of the two countries' new curricula from six aspects: the comparison of democratic idea of education, diversified idea of education, socialized idea of education, comprehensive idea of qualified personnel cultivation, idea of lifelong education, carrying forward the good traditions and culture of one's own country and developing the consciousness of international understanding. Thirdly, this thesis discusses the similarities and differences as well as the characteristics of the curriculum building of senior high school between the two countries from eight aspects: overall curriculumbuilding, explanation of curriculum building, curriculum structure, obligatory courses, elective courses, school-based curriculum, graduation appraisal and particular examples of the school curriculum building of the two countries. In order to adapt to the variety of social requirements and the all-round development as well as the personalities of the students, both China and Japan optimize the curriculum building, construct new diversified comprehensive curriculum structure and describe the students' schooling condition through the credit system. Lastly, as a part of self-examination and enlightenment, the fourth part analyzes the superiority and weakness in common of the two countries, and it reveals a great deal of enlightenment to the curriculum building of senior high school, even the educational reform at present and in the future in China:1). Working out perfect and comprehensive curriculum objective system2). Handling the problem of elective courses correctly.3). Expediting the development and establishment of comprehensive and vocational courses.4). Improving the diversification and elasticity of system of school education.5). Improving the credit appraisal system.China and Japan have some similarities in historical and cultural background as well as the same problem which needs resolving at present and in the future Now China is going through the curriculum reform after stepping into the 21st century. There is much in the process, experience and lessons of Japan's curriculum reform, especially the ideas of the new curriculum and measures of new curriculum building that we can make good use of.
