Xian Xinghai, an influential composer in the modern history of music, wrote many works full of time spirit and national style, most of which are vocals. And his musical works occupy a position of particular significance in the history of musical development in the twentieth century.The Yellow River Chorus by Xian Xinghai is a group of chorus songs that are independent and at the same time connective each other in content, theme and performance. This paper gives a detailed research of "Eulogy to the Yellow River", "Ballad of the Yellow Water" and " Complaint of the Yellow River". Firstly, composing skills, rhythm and lyric are analyzed and summed up so that times and national styles may be mastered. Secondly, singing style and skill are given a further exploration. Breath, tone color, speed, strength, feeling and others are revealed and dealt with. The forms, content, thought and performance arrive at the perfect and unity.The theme and characters are different in the three pieces, but their contents are unitary and full of patriotic spirit and time spirit, connecting the Chinese music with the Western one. It is one of the Chinese arias with the combination of art, thought and times.
