Vocabulary is one of the most important elements in a language. And vocabulary teaching is of great importance to ELT in China. So the study on how to present English vocabulary efficiently is practical and necessary.On the basis of the theories in psychology and second language acquisition, this thesis deals with a survey of, by means of experiment, the efficiency of games in presenting English vocabulary to the graduating class in Chinese high school. The data is collected, analyzed and discussed. It shows that the presentation mode of playing games is applicable to the graduating class. Games help to improve the efficiency in both the short-term and the long-term retention of the target vocabulary. Also the traditional modes of presenting vocabulary still work in some way. It is suggested that teachers should make good use of the affective variables, use suitable games and arouse students' interest in vocabulary teaching.
