Backgrounds and ObjectivesThe evaluation of the quality of life (QOL) not only derives from human's biological attribute, but also regards human as a social person, emphasize human's social and psychological status, fully reflects that health has a close relationship with physiology, psychology of human and social environment around him. Because the QOL can reflect the health status of individuals or population in many dimensions, and can show active and negative factors of health from positive and negative aspects. So under new medical mode, the QOL is undoubtedly becoming an important direction of the evaluation of health. The QOL of undergraduates has been defined as the objective state of undergraduates's current experience of life and experience subjectively. The evaluation of QOL can reflect the general state of the health of undergraduates more accurately. The study on health-related quality of life among undergraduates is just in the beginning in China. And the related investigation and study about the QOL of undergraduates in higher education campus are few in domestic and abroad. In order to understand the QOL of undergraduates of higher education campus thoroughly, questionnaires of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) , Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) , and WHOQOL-BREF (Chinese edition) were used to comprehensivelyassess the QOL of undergraduates in higher education campus and explore its relevant factors.Methods400 undergraduates in Hangzhou Normal College were selected by hold-up sampling method in classroom, library, refectory and dormitory. During 16 days of the investigation, 3 trained investigator were assigned to interview selected subjects by five questionnaires including basic information questionnaire, the satisfaction questionnaire about the environmental change, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) , Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) , and standardized health-related QOL. The items of the basic information questionnaire covered the subject's age, gender, major and whether the subject served as leader, whether the subject like his current speciality, whether he had been given honor or prize, whether he had been given the official punishment, whether he had fell in love, whether he had surfed on the internet, monthly average expense, daily average time for sports and exercise, arrangement of weekend, the weekly average time and purpose on the internet, the school academic performance and so on. The items of the satisfaction questionnaire included the degree of the subject's satisfaction with the changes of environments in study, daily life, health care provision, security maintenance, traffic, interpersonal relationship and social practice. The remaining three questionnaires were all acceptable scales. The investigation was conducted from February 25th 2005 to March 28th 2005. And the 391 pieces of eligible questionnaires was recieved.ResultsThe percentages of the undergraduates with mild anxiety and moderate anxiety were 19.4% and 1.0% respectively in this study. In addition, the percentages of the undergraduates with mild depression, moderate depression and severe depression were 25.1%, 12.8% and 0.8% respectively. 53.5% of the undergraduates reported that thetraffic situation became worse after the school was moved to the higher education campus. Scores of the QOL in six dimensions among the undergraduates were as follows: physiologic domain 66.37±9.63, psychologic domain 67.94±10.39, social relationship domain 70.05± 13.61, environmental domain 63.27±9.61, general QOL 3.37±0.68, general health condition 3.36±0.89. There was no significant difference on the QOL between male and female (P>0.05). The undergraduates who served as leader had higher scores on the social relationship than the others (P<0.05). The undergraduates who like their speciality had higher scores on the physiologic domain, psychologic domain, social relationship and general life quality than the others (P<0.05) .
