Successfully carrying out the New Criteria for the Course of Physical Education and Fitness (NCCPET for short) requires the teachers to make a change over their previous roles. Possessing a pluralistic knowledge structure, mastering many skills while specializing in one and striving to become an individual of integrity are essential qualifications that a teacher needs to function as the overall supervisor. Under the traditional teaching program, the teacher is mainly concerned with the teaching of the basic concepts in sports and health care and relevant skills and techniques to students. The major purpose of such an education is to help students build a better physical constituent and sporting capability as well as a good sense and awareness. As a matter of fact, the teacher himself/herself, the in-class teaching and the course books are the core of this one-sided teaching activity and students are simply "rotating"around such factors passively. Therefore, the teaching results in this traditional way are usually much less than satisfying. Luckily, the adoption of the NCCPET will improve both the students' studying activity and the teachers'teaching life. Under the new situation, a teacher's primal task lies in reflecting the past teaching experience as objectively, rationally and scientifically as possible. Only when he/she is able to pin down the appropriate function and give the full play to his/her role in this teaching-learning program can the NCCPET be fully understood and its implementation effectively guaranteed. Through adopting the method of literature collection and analyses, based on a careful study on the previous domestic researching results of the roles a teacher plays as well as the utilization of the questionnaire investigation method in six middle schools in the city of Huhhot, this thesis focuses on the investigation of "the influence on the role of the PE teacher brought about by the implementation of the NCCPET ". The major aspects researched on are as follows: whether the teacher is changed to the democratic type from the domineering type; whether the students'interests are considerably triggered and whether their actual study achievement can be accurately reflected with the current academic evaluation system; whether the mutual relationship between the teacher and the students are greatly enhanced. Subsequently, the PE teaching pattern in these six middle schools is classified into the democratic category and the domineering category. Following this division, successive comparison and analysis are made between the two sets of researching items. Afterwards the Two-dimensional Logistic Recurrent Equation is adopted to probe into the impact of the teacher's role among the various factors which influence students'learning interest, and the following conclusions are drawn: 1. In PE teaching, students have a much stronger preference for democratic teachers than the domineering ones. As compared to the former situation, there are fewer cases occurring when a teacher does not give the students the due respect and neglect their dignity. And the teachers willingly strengthen the interpersonal communication between thestudents and himself/herself in their teaching practice. However, the in-class guidance the teachers give to the students is still not so satisfactory. 2. The students partly like the teaching method of their teachers, but the contents of courses of physical education are slightly out of date. The classroom atmosphere is more rejoicing and livelier, students enjoy themselves in having PE class and there is obvious promotion in their learning interest. 3. Some students admit that the existing PE evaluation system is acceptable, while others do not think much about it and even disapprove of such a system. 4. The main factors that influence students'learning interest in the PE class are as such: whether the teacher gives due respect to students and values their dignity; to what a degree can students enjoy themselves sporting in the class; the capability students maintain in sporting and exercising activities; the academic evaluation of the performance in PE course; the communication between students and their teacher as well as the teaching ability of the PE teacher, and etc. 5. In the concluding part of the thesis, several feasible measures are suggested to solve the problems revealed in the schools investigated.
