The era of knowledge economy, courses study, teacher education, the worldwidecurriculum reform have put more attention on teachers' professional development. As thesubjects of education practice, their quality will not only influence their development, butalso influence the implementation of the New curriculum,the quality of education andstudents' growing and development. Concerning on teachers'professional developmentmeans the recovering of teachers, which will become the main discourse of teachers'practice and innovation in the 21st century. As the fundamental factor of influencingteachers' professional development , the contents and the types of teachers' needs duringthe process of the implementation of the New curriculum will influence the effectivenessof teacher education and the curriculum implementation, the formation of teachers'self-awareness ability and self-development designing ability. Therefore, in thisdissertation, I will try to discover the structure, the features of teachers' needs, the factorsof influencing teachers' needs and the strategies of promoting teachers' professionaldevelopment under the background of the implementation of the New curriculum.Promoting the New curriculum and teachers' development is the main aim in thisdissertation.The dissertation consists of six parts.The preface introduces the studying background, namely the history backgroundand the era background, the studying commentary and the studying problem.Part one introduces the studying method and process, which includes the studyingobject, the studying method, the studying process, the studying reliability and validity.Part two identifies the concepts of "need", "teachers' professional developing need"and discusses the worth of this study, concluding the meaning of teachers'professinaldevelopment to teachers themselves, to the system of teacher education and to theimplementation of the New curriculum.Part three is the core of this dissertation, in which I try to find out the structure,features of teachers' needs and the factors of influencing teachers' needs under theimplementation of the New curriculum, which conclude the change of teachers' attitudeand understanding, the influences caused by the key event, the key problem, the keyfigure and the environment of school.Part four presents some advice on how to concern, satisfy teachers' needs and howto promote teachers' professional development on the basic of research.Part five makes the conclusion and reflection.
