With the rapid development of science & technology, scientific literacy, whichare closely related to the comprehensive national strength, have become an importantpart of national quality and may have a strong impact on the national development ofscience and technology. Comparatively speaking, our country lags much behinddeveloped ones in this aspect. Therefore, it is a must for us teachers to increase theyouth's scientific literacy, and also a must to make a good foundation for furtherimprovements of national quality. One of the notions of biology course in the newround of curriculum reform is to increase scientific literacy for all school students, ifso, mid-school biology teachers should be more qualified in scientific literacy.Presently the educational circles pay close attention to the problems of the mid-schoolbiology teachers' status quo of scientific literacy and how to improve it. They are alsothe problems that the research mainly focus on.This article sums up the basic connotation of scientific literacy for teachersespecially biology teachers by adopting a summary of documents and consultingsome colleagues' research achievements as well. During research work, the writerdrew up questionnaires referring to "the questionnaires for citizens' scientific literacy"and made a poll among some mid-school biology teachers of Zibo. Here are sometraits of scientific literacy for mid-school biology teachers got from the poll: Manyteachers have a good master of scientific knowledge, but a few of them have somedeviations about scientific ways and some of them still lack educational & scientificresearch methods;Imbalanced development still exists in teachers' attitude towardscience, while their spirit of scientific research is pretty good. According to thedeficiencies found out, this article also deals with the research of countermeasureagainst the problems, indicating it's long and arduous process to improve teachers'scientific literacy, the enhancement of scientific literacy for mid-school biologyteachers not only needs the teachers' own efforts, but also needs the policy-relatedsupports of educational authorities, training from all levels of educational departmentsand promotions of reform at teachers' institutions of higher learning.
