The study was to explore how the two stress-coping methods, relaxation training and inactivity, influenced Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), Heart Rate(HR) and Heart Rate Variability (HRV)under mental arithmetic, and to explore the difference of healthy people, depression patients with anxiety and depression patients without anxiety in terms of GSR, HR and HRV. There were 48 patients including outpatients and first-inpatients of the First affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University, and 24 healthy people from the same hospital. The patients were composed of 24 depression patients with anxiety and 24 depression patients without anxiety. After matching, all subjects were divided into two equal groups: the relaxation training group and the inactive group. Mental arithmetic was chose as an experimental stressor in this study. Relaxation training and inactivity were adopted in front-stress intervention, with between-group and within-group experimental design. The subjects' GSR, HR and HRV were recorded using some apparatus and computer in four phases. The results showed that the HR and LF, LF/HF of HRV of the depression patients with anxiety were higher than the other two experimental groups, while GSR and HF of HRV of these were lower than the other two groups in baseline phase, and that there was no significant difference between the depression patients without anxiety and the healthy people. During intervention, the GSR and HF were increasing, while HR, LF and LF/HF of the subjects were decreasing, and relaxation training's impact was obviously superior to the inactivity, especially on the depression patients with anxiety . Inactivity could intensify the depression patients with anxiety. During stress, relaxation training could effectively cope with the decrease of GSR and HF, and the increase of HR,LF and LF/HF of subjects, and it had significant difference with the inactive group. At the last all subjects came back baseline phase in restoration phase. In general, the sympathetic nerve of the depression patients with anxiety was more excited than that of the other two groups, and that relaxation training can relieve thestrain of sympathetic nerve and then make people better confront stress, so it canserve as an assistant remedial method for the depression patients, especially for thosewith anxiety. It was found that the inactivity was beneficial to the depression patientswithout anxiety and the healthy people, but was bad to the depression patients withanxiety, so they should avoid sitting alone quietly.
