In this article, a comprehensive survey is made for the state quo of bilingual teaching given to students of colleges and universities in Xinjiang by using questionnaires and interviews with ethnic minority students, teachers and teaching management personnel of five institutions of higher learning in Xinjiang including Xinjiang University, Xinjiang Normal University, Xinjiang Medical University, Xinjiang University of Agriculture, Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics. Guided by theories of educational sociology, educational anthropology and ethnic pedagogy, the author of this article made a complete analysis of the achievements scored in and problems prevailing in bilingual teaching in colleges and universities in Xinjiang. By quantitative and qualitative analysis, the author evaluated the effect of bilingual teaching in higher education of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang and proposed measures for existing problems so that bilingual teaching given to students of colleges and universities in Xnjiang be developed greatly and bilingual teaching better serve the higher education of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang.
