Competencies are motivation, traits, self-image, attitudes, values, knowledge, conduct and skills, personal attributes that can distinguish outstanding employees with common employees through authentic measurement. In 1973,McClelland had mentioned competency in his book Measure competence not by intelligence for the first time. He thought that to predict working efficiency or working career merely by intelligent quiz was not correct enough, sometimes, even had seriously blunder. According to this, he proposed that we used competency instead of traditional intelligent measure.The research of competency began with American in 1970s, after that, it had came to blossom. While our nation's research has just starting its steps, outside our country, the research has covering a wide field and becoming more and more ripe. The research of the competency managed to provide a new perspective for the human resource management, which is beneficial to the selection, recruitment, training, assessing and guidance of career development.The research chooses Principal as the research object whose competencies have been deeply studied practically. Both from theory and practice way, the discussion refers what competency is needed to gain better score as domestic middle school Principal. Besides, we will establish competency model of the Principal and find the influence made by the change of population to the competencies.The study has three parts:1 Behavior Event Interview was used to study a competency model on Principal, based on the record of 34 Principals (16 supetstars,18 average performers), established the competency model of Principal through competency analysis, T test, correlation analysis. 2 Correcting the model with information from group focused interview, questionnaire.3 The self-constructed competency questionnaire based on the model is employed to select the data information for verifying model.The results showed: Firstly, Through study1 and study 2, we had a primary competency model of the Principal which include: Achievement Orientation, Influence, Relation Building, Developing Others, Logical Thinking, Self-confidence, Flexibility, Team Leading, Organization Commitment.
