With the initiation of the curriculum reform in fundamental education, foreign language teaching offers a new request to teachers' education and development. Traditional teaching ideas and methods cannot satisfy educational demands. Under this circumstance, "reflective practice" provides an alternative approach to current foreign language teaching. Reflective teaching is a reflective process for developing teachers' expertise in problem solving, decision-making, and complex thinking. The knowledge we gain through reflection can play a very vital role in the development of our professional practice. It is reflective teaching that has become an effective way for teachers' professional development. This research aims to make teachers realize what reflective teaching is; try to arouse their reflective awareness.This research is carried out in five steps, including theories of reflective teaching, questionnaire and interviews for teachers, data collecting, data analysis, discussion, and conclusion. The author tries to describe the nature of reflective teaching, to explain the role of reflection in the teaching process. The paper deals with five aspects of reflective teaching. They are: (1) three models of reflective practice; (2) classifications of reflective teaching; (3) characteristics of reflective teaching; (4) goals of reflective teaching; (5) benefits of reflective teaching. In addition, based on the analysis and the discussion of the questionnaire and the interview, the paper considers teachers' understanding of reflection; situations in which reflection occurs; factors influencing reflection; ways of reflection; effects of reflection.
