The college students majoring in physical education are not only one of the most active groups, but also one of the main sources of the teaching staff in primary and high schools. Being the individual behavior, their ideological and moral qualities are the most important part of their knowledge and activities in the future career plan. The author realizes that the students' ideological and moral states are changing enormously under the influence of modernization, with the continuous shifts in society, economy and culture. These changes stimulate the educators of ideological and moral qualities for the college students majoring in physical education to make active response in order to carry out this special ideological and moral education work in this changing era.Against this background, based on the theoretical guidance of the scientific positivism and dialectical materialism, this paper selects eight universities with the physical education specialty as the research samples and makes the comprehensive investigation of the ideological and moral state of the students majoring in physical education in the form of questionnaires. The investigation covers political quality, ideological quality, psychological quality, moral quality and quality of law and discipline. With the investigation and analysis, the author discovers that the students majoring in physical education have some problems in this aspect. Their political consciousness needs improving; their psychology is not stable; they lack social skills and often ignore the improvement of their moral recognition ability; there are some misinterpretations of the competition value and misunderstandings in outlook on life and values; their ideas of the career choice are somewhat radical and they are short of knowledge of laws and regulations. In the light of these facts, from macro to micro levels, the author analyzes the reasons for these problems, the negative influence of the social environment, and the fault of moral education in schools and the students' own defects and shortcomings.
