With IPAQ (Chinese version) and CES-D, the study investigated the physical activities (PA) and the depression mood of 1015 college students in Hubei. The findings are as follows:a. The IPAQ (both long form and short form) displayed good reliability and validity. There are significant differences in the items of the IPAQ long form. The IPAQ short form comparatively showed less than IPAQ long form about the PA. However there is a significant difference between the results by the two scales. It is believed that the IPAQ long form can be utilized to the research and evaluation task of PA, while the IPAQ short form can be applied to the national or local survey of PA.b. By the full survey the study found out the different grades of PA among the college students in Hubei, and drew up firstly a concrete numerical value of college students'PA according to the international standards of IPAQ. It is found that only 49.1% college students have vigorous PA in a week. 35.3% of the total students reach the grade high; 56.8% come to the grade moderate, and the rest about 7.9% fall to low. The grades and values drawn provide a dynamic monitor and help to the future study of college students'PA in China.c. There exists sex differences among the 6 items of IPAQ, generally boy students'PA are a bit higher than girl students except the domain of PA related with domestic and yard chores.d. Students of arts have more moderate PA, while students of science have more vigorous PA. Students from general universities have more PA in all 6 domains than students from the key universities. Students from the local cities have more PA in 5 domains than students from Wuhan cities except the PA in work domain.f. In the leisure time domain the total PA , the total vigorous PA , the total PA there are significant differences among the sources of the students. Students from the countryside have the most PA, while the city students have the least. Meanwhile the students living on the first floor have the less of PA than those on the upstairs.g. The average depression level by CES-D is 13.48, a little higher than national survey level. 66.1% of the total students have no depression symptom, 15.5% could have the symptom while 18.4 of the total definitely have the depression symptom. It is found that there is no statistical difference in depression level between the genders, grades, studying major, universities etc. There exists significant difference between the depression grades and PA grades in leisure time. The students who definitely have no depression symptoms share most high grade PA in leisure time while those with depressions share the least in leisure time.
