Self-handicapping strategies is any action or choice of performance setting that enhances the opportunity to externalize (or excuse) failure and internalize (reasonably accept credit for) success. School is a typical performance setting, so there are many researches investigate the academic self-handicapping in school setting abroad, but few in our country. This article in the way of inventory concerns about four questions. The first, we want to examine whether the translating and emending self-handicapping scale, achievement goal orientation scale and perfectionism scale are the same with interrelated researches in our county. The second, discussing the differences of sex and class in students' academic self-handicapping. The third, researching the effect of achievement goal orientation, parenting style on students' perfectionism and academic self-handicapping. And the last, analyzing the relationship between perfectionism and academic self-handicapping. By a serious of analysis, including item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, validity and reliability analysis, univariate analysis of variance and multiply regression analysis. The findings are as follows:1. The translating and emending self-handicapping scale, achievement goal orientation scale and perfectionism scale have better reliability and validity; They are the same with interrelated researches in our county.2. Sex has significant effect on the college students' academic self-handicapping. Male students have fewer academic self-handicapping than female students significantly.3. Achievement goal orientation has effect on academic self-handicapping significantly. Performance-approach and performance-avoid goal orientation have significantly positive effect on academic self-handicapping; Mastery goal orientation has significantly negative effect on academic self-handicapping.4. Parenting style has effect on academic self-handicapping significantly. The maternal warmth and understanding has significantly negative effect on academic self-handicapping, that is to say, the higher level the maternal warmth and understanding, the more academic self-handicapping; The maternal excessive intervening and protecting have significantly positive effect on academic self-handicapping, that is to say, the higher level the maternal excessive intervening and protecting , the more academic self-handicapping.5. College students' perfectionism has effect on the academic self-handicapping significantly. The higher level perfectionism, the more academic self-handicapping.6. The two dimensions—concern about mistakes and doubt of action of perfectionism have mediating effects on parenting style and academic self-handicapping.
