The undergraduate students competency research has the vital significance to the quality-oriented education of university. Establishment competency model of the undergraduate students is deciding the university education training ideas, objectives, the training mode as well as the curriculum system. The competency model theory frame can provide theoretical guidance to improve the quality-oriented education in the direction and the actual effect. However, the research of undergraduate students competency has the problem which many needs to solve: the theory weak, the competency model no strict method, the research technique simplification, the forecast worse, poor evaluation tools and other issues.This study used qualitative research and quantitative research unified to the competency of undergraduate students and made a new research and try. The research divides three phases: The first phase establishes the undergraduate students expect competency model with the qualitative research. According to grounded theory methodology interviewed 48 respondents to gather information. Data collection and information analysis alternately at the same time, After open coding, axial coding, selective coding three levels of codings, finally formed including the foundation, knowledge, skills, personality, adaptation five dimensions, 15 categories, 85 competency in the undergraduate students expect competency model . The second phase of quantitative research methods to establish the actual competency of students Model. Put 85 college students competency in the qualitative study as the projects of undergraduate students competency questionnaire. After trial survey and modifications has formed a undergraduate students competency questionnaire. Has carried on the test to the Wuhan area 7 universities altogether 1,395 universities graduate. According exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis of the results, had finally determined the undergraduate students compentecy model is a two steps and one factor model, Including adaptability, executive ability, personality, occupational ability, knowledge, political ideology, moral character, relationships, independence, self-awareness, health 12 secondary levels. By comparising the undergraduate students expect competency model and the actual competency model showed that current undergraduate students sense of happiness, pressure, humanities knowledge, history knowledge, time management, self-care ability, eight specific qualities is still behind the target of community expectation. The third phase research is take the second phase research as a foundation, using the t-test and analysis of variance to find the difference in the competency of undergraduate students, to further understanding of the Quality Status. The results indicated the current competency of undergraduate students by gender and major the two professional categories demographic variables are significant differences, In family variables did not differ significantly.
