The reading ability is known as the most stable and durable among the foreign language abilities. Thus improving students' reading ability is one of the main objectives of Senior English teaching and learning. However, the present reading teaching of Senior English is still using traditional methods and is not satisfactory. For this reason, the paper tries to find a new way to improve the teaching efficiency of Senior English reading and students' reading ability and solve the problems existing in the English reading classes by using the Schema Theory creatively.The author states the past and the present situation and the problems with English reading teaching after the author gives a description of the Schema Theory, followed by the introduction to how to improve the teaching efficiency of Senior English reading by using the Schema Theory, and an experiment to test the Feasibility and effect of the strategies put forward in this paper. Data for this paper comes from achievement grades of both experimental and control groups and an interview of 20 students. Based on the analysis of the results, the author draws the conclusion that the strategies put forward in this paper are both feasible and effective. The author also talks about the limitations of this paper as well as suggestions about further studies.
