| With English more and more widely used in the world today, writing, as one of the four basic skills of language teaching, has drawn more and more attention in the language teaching. Although it is well acknowledged that writing skill is very important to the language learners, it still seems inferior to the skills of listening, speaking and reading. While teaching writing, the teachers are always bothered by the language errors in the students' writings. Many researchers and teachers have done much work to students' writing errors, but they usually focus on the college students, the writer of this paper would like to explore an issue about error analysis and feedback of writing teaching in the junior middle school.What kind of errors occurs frequently in the writings of the junior students?What cause the errors?Who should give the feedback of errors?Which is the most effective way of error feedback?These are what will be discussed later in this paper in six parts. The first part is an introduction of the paper. The second part will introduce the theoretical system of error analysis and its development, and then will come to its great importance to English writing teaching. In the third part, some studies are given to analyze the errors that appear frequently in students' writings so as to find out the causes of these errors. The fourth part gives an introduction to the current approaches of writing teaching and points out the importance of error feedback. Part Five is the key of the essay, which tells what attitudes students hold to their errors, which ways they choose to correct their errors and what different outcomes there can be by using different ways of error feedback. Two experiments are described in details in this part to help illustrate the issues above. Students involved in the experiment and the procedures of the experiment are also included in this part. The two- semester long experiment shows the three ways of error feedback, among which teachers' feedback and peer feedback are more effective and practical than the other one, self- feedback. In the last part of this essay, the author gives some advice about how to deal with the possible problems while doing error correction and this part also reveals the significance that the experiment brings to writing teaching. |
