The function of language is communication . There is no doubt that writing , as a means of communication , is one of the most important ways to facilitate the function . As the reform and open policy go on , especially after China joined the WTO , the exchange between foreign countries and ours is becoming more and more frequent. So whether can communicate successfully relies on whether we can express ourselves correctly and accurately in English writing .Based on some theoretical researches on error analysis and learner's interlanguage, this thesis mainly explores the errors and the causes of the errors in the middle school student's English writings . First, the thesis investigates the errors made by the students of Shenyang No. 134 Middle School in their compositions.Then , an analysis of those errors is made following the procedures of identifying the errors , clarifying the errors , explaining the errors . After that, a questionnaire is designed to make a survey of the causes of the errors for the purpose of improving English teaching and learning .In order to reduce the student's errors and develop their own language-interlanguage , middle school English teachers should first of all treat the errors properly and then use some correct ways to teach English, especially the ways to teach writing as way of thinking in English . Besides , language feeling is also important in language learning . The teachers should try hard to take much advantage of listening, reading and speaking to cultivate the students in the sense of the language .
