American community college reverse transfer means that students are not always followed the traditional transfer model of moving from community colleges to four-year universities. On the contrary, reverse transfer is that students transfer to community college from the four-year university. Reverse transfer is one of the immersing focus issues in American higher education, which is paid much attention to. Reverse transfer exerted a significant impact not only on community college, but also the whole higher education in America. Meanwhile, as there are many phenomenon and problems that are similar with reverse transfer in American community college existing in many countries, the research on reverse transfer is of great significance. The main body of this thesis can be divided into four parts:Chapter one introduced the background and developing courses of reverse transfer in community college on the basis of the history of American community college. The phenomenon of reverse transfer in community college came into being about in the 1960s, in that time undergraduate reverse transfer students (URTSs) were mainly graduates without degree. After the 1980s, the number of post-baccalaureate reverse transfer students (PRTSs) increased steadily and became a main part of reverse transfers.Chapter two discussed the overall situation of American college reverse transfer, including the variety, number, demographic characteristics, curriculums and academic performances of reverse transfers, as well as some policies about reverse transfer adopted by many states, so as to provide a general awareness to reverse transfer for people.Chapter three probes into the deep-rooted causes of reverse transfer in four aspects, namely the situation of American economy; the cultural traditions, social values and their characteristics; the characteristics of students; the advantages of community colleges.Chapter four presented the far-reaching and significant impact arising from the reverse transfer in American community college. Then the author made a comparative study between the phenomena of re-education in our higher education and the phenomena of reverse transfer in American community colleges. And the conclusion is that there are great similarities shared by the phenomena in both countries. The most important significance of reverse transfer lies in that it will bring a fundamental change in conception. The process of learning is no longer in vertical, upward direction, which can be horizontal even show a "retrogression". The significance of reverse transfer also lies in that it is will stir a re-reorganization of the problem of re-education in our higher education which can not be simply treated as education waste.
