Education is the foundation of subsisting a nation, so doesa person himself. The developed higher education of U.S.Apromoted the young country' s power in the top position of theworld, which lay a foundation for America' s faster and strongerdevelopment in the future. The cultivating target of Americanhigher education has changed properly in the proper historypoints to stipulate the talents who were requisite for thecountry' s development. At the same time, the curriculum settinghas focused and centered on the cultivating target closely toguarantee the talents' specifications and qualities. Just thematching of the both sides perfectly has ensured thehuman-resource providing timely when the country' s developmentdemanded. The thesis is divided into three parts to research onthe curriculum setting and cultivating target of American highereducation how to match each other to supply talents forAmerica' s economy, polity and other social fields, and theirperformance in different history periods.The first part of the thesis presents the researchbackground, research significance, research status in quo, andclarifies the main concepts.The second part thesis unscrambles the cultivating targetand curriculum setting' s development and evolvement ofAmerican higher education during three phases in itshistory——Colony period, initial stage of states establishment,urbanization period. This part mainly demonstrates cultivatingtarget's change and curriculum setting adjusting after it.The third part emphasize the four characteristics of American higher education' s curriculum setting, which are alsoone of the key points that makes American higher educationpowerful" curriculum fully and tightly services the change ofcultivating target, specific pertinence, indigenous features,and internationalization.We can find "ME" from "YOU", the successful experiencesof American higher education can give us some hints to ponderour higher education' s development.
