Mathematics has become an important of modern culture.To develop students' abilities of mathematical communication has become one of the objectives of schoolmathematics in many countries around the world.Mathematics communication is a dynamic process of using mathematical language and techniques for solving various problems in the learning and teaching of mathematics.The factors that affect students' mathematics communication activities include:(1)the use of languages (2) foundancifal mathematics;(3)the visual representation of mathematics ideas;(4)problem soving; and(5)emotions and attitudes towards mathematics.In this thesis,we shall focus on the following three problems:(1)what kind of mathematics communication can be successful?(2)how to assess the mathematics communication?(3)what strategies can be used to enhance students' abilities in mathematicscommunication ?This thesis has been divided into five sections.The first is the section of introduction.Based on an overview of the current theories and status abount mathematical communication,we proposed our reseach questions.The second section focuses on the theoretical respectives of mathematical communication.specifically,we introduced the learning theory of constructivism, Rogers' teaching theory and the principles for assessing students' performance.The third section focuses on the construction of a measurement of students'mathematical communication.It was drafted from an analysis of factors that affect students' mathematical communication abilities and finalized by the Delphi Technque. The fourth section shows us how to use the measurement of mathematical communication abilities.Using two cases ,We discussed the effectiveness of the measurement.In the last section,we proposed several strategies to develop students'mathematical communication skills based on the previons theoretical and partical analyses.
