Reading comprehension is one of the important skills in foreign language learning. For high school students, reading is the main way to get information and reading comprehension is one of the basic abilities . In another aspect, reading is a process of psycholinguistic activity. In this activity, the reader actively combines his or her knowledge or schema with the textual information in the process of planning, recognizing, guessing, proving, monitoring and evaluating etc. In the process strategies involved will affect the process of reading comprehension.. The reader should intentionally regulate and control the reading process and adopt appropriate strategies to solve the problems they meet in their reading. Metacognitive strategies can help readers to regulate and control their reading process. So metacognitive strategies is related to reading comprehension.In recent years, research of metocognitive strategies focuses more and more on reading comprehension application, based on prominent researchers such as Flavell, O'Malley, Chamot and Oxford. However, these studies of metacognitive strategies have been carried out either in English as a second language setting or focusing on general English learning.Scanty attention has been paid to investigating Chinese senior high school students'metacognition in their reading process. As a high school English teacher I am eager to apply these metacognitive strategies in my daily teaching to help my students to improve their reading ability.My thesis will focus on this field: application of metacognitive strategies to reading comprehension in High Schools. And try to carry out a training program in daily teaching to train students'metocognitive strategies. In this essay, I try to answer the following questions according to my study and training program:1. What kind of problems related to metacognition existing in high school English Reading?2. Whether metacognitive strategies can improve students'reading comprehension ability?3. What kind of metacognitive strategies can apply in English reading comprehension in high schools?4. How can we use metacognitive strategies in high school reading comprehension?...
