The Study Of Feng Youlan's Educational Thoughts

Feng Youlan is a domestic philosopher, historian of philosophy and educator who has long enjoyed a good reputation. At present, there has been a thorough study of Feng Youlan as a philosopher and a historian of philosophy in the academic circle and people have already scored great successes. However, the study of Feng Youlan as an educator has not been launched in earnest yet. Especially, there is little study about the important content of equivalence comparatively. This paper develops an exposition starting from the study of Feng Youlan's thoughts in educational thoughts. This paper can be divided into two parts: the introduction and the main body.Generally speaking, this paper includes the basic background on which Feng Youlan's educational thoughts are based; the fundamental connotation in educational thoughts; the perfect educational thoughts ; the practice and the position of educational thoughts; and its significance of reference and guidance to the present university education. All of these aspects form an internal logical system. It mainly analyzes the origin of Feng Youlan's educational thoughts, including two parts among them: one is the education thoughts of the Chinese tradition〝worshiping morality and amusing oneself in recreation〞, the other is the western education thoughts about〝freedom of thoughts and ideology of tolerance〞and〝school means society, education means living〞, mentioning the Chinese educator Cai Yuanpei and the American educator John Dewey .The author expounds that the basic background of Feng Youlan's educational thoughts is affected by the educational ideas of them. The author relates the fundamental connotation of Feng Youlan's educational thoughts including the idea about founding a successful university; the guiding principle for running a school by a professor; the educational aim of academic independence and democracy; and the diversified educational patterns merged with the true, the good and the beautiful. The author discusses Feng Youlan's invisible education which is beyond the visible level and the perfect educational thoughts which permeate the universe. It embodies the character of Feng Youlan's educational thoughts ,which is the thoughts of "the east combines with the west" and "the ego of praxis ".The author analyzes the practice of Feng Youlan's educational thoughts, and its significance of reference and immediate guidance to the present university education.Thus, we can have a basic knowledge about Feng Youlan's educational thoughts, and enrich Feng Youlan's education research system further in a way. Moreover, there is the certain significance of reference and guidance to the rationalization of the present education especially university education and the exploration of the university education.
