The integration of English teaching and media in senior high schools has become an inevitable trend with the enormous influx of information for the new curriculum reform, the lifelong need of learners as well as the characteristics of high school English curriculum. However, in reality, there exist many problems and misunderstanding in applying media in English teaching. The integration of English teaching and communication media in senior high schools is not very suitable, appropriate and effective, which requires urgent improvement. From the perspective of an English teacher who has long been teaching English in high schools, and based on teaching practice, this thesis is focused on the research relevance between English teaching and communication media in senior high schools, with the deliberate aim of probing deeper into the research of relevance and suitability of application of media. It is hoped that we can take full advantage of modern media, reinforce students'learning motivation and thus greatly improve the effectiveness of English teaching in senior high schools.This thesis further studies the fundamental functions of communication media, theoretical basis for the integration of English teaching in high schools and communication media as well as the basic functions of media. And most important of all, this thesis studies the main principles and practical methods in promoting the appropriateness of media application. It stresses the importance of designing media on the basis of cognitive learning. The design of media should correspond to the psychological development of students and make media coordinate more appropriately with teaching contents and target with other important elements such as emotions, teachers, and the environment taken into consideration. Based on the Yilin-Oxford English textbooks for senior high school students currently used in Jiangsu Province, some research cases are provided and a series of surveys and experiments are implemented in the hope of promoting the suitable integration between English teaching and communication media in senior high schools.
