With recent years'enormous enrollments in universities and colleges, china has stepped into the popularized age of higher education. This causes many quality problems , about which people greatly concerned . After being satisfied with the basic needs on education, the people sprout their needs on higher education of good quality. On the other hand ,the development of society and economics require young employee with new demands . The classification of types is the premise for the location of colleges and universities .At present ,there are 1909 universities and colleges in our country with different hierarchy and sorts , so it is very important to find an effective road improving quality based on the schools'orientation.This essay aims to study the quality of undergraduate education in our national teaching and researching universities from academic and practical aspect during the development of mass higher education .Part 1 presents some existing problems of undergraduate education during the process of higher education's popularization ,and simply interprete from whence the classification of universities .Part 2 explain several basic concepts such as quality, education quality and higher education quality, then derived the quality view and quality criteria of teaching and researching universities . After a roundup of national scholars'correspondence researching, Part 3 analyse the actuality of educational quality by the gist of"Chinese Universities Evaluation"presented by Wu Shulian– a researcher of Guangdong Management Science Researching Institute. Based on the academical theory of"Total Quality Management",the author design a set of teaching total quality management system in Part 4, which bears three characteristics ,that is ,during the whole process,involve all people and on every aspect .PartⅤanalyse the logos of teaching and researching universities and put forward three personnel training models: innovation,application and integration . PartⅥpresents a comparative analysis of two types of curricula system ,then reconstructs a new system named as"crown". On the basis of constructivism ,PartⅦdiscusses three groups of relationship ,and put forward two new teaching models of research and the question-and-answer methods . Probing into the undergraduate education quality of teaching and researching universities is a very important method of transiting educational notions to improve the whole level of our national higher education.I expect this essay could give some help for the development of teaching and researching universities not only in theory but also in practice .
