Modern Olympic Games has become the most attractive phenomenon both socially and culturally. Moreover, the once-every-four-year event has resulted in a periodical ceremony all over the world, pushing forward the continuous development of the Olympics. Competition events are the main contents of the Olympic Games; they are the cells that make up the Olympic Games. So on some level, without the setting of the events, there would be no success in the development of the Olympics. Besides, we can find out some rules of the Olympics development by studying the addition and deletion of its events. This will not only give us a better understanding of the history of the Game, but also enable us to a better understanding of its developing trend. This article., based on the study of past Olympic Games, with the researching method of history, by categorizing and analyzing the item addition and deletion, tries to reveal the general developing tendency of the changes in event setting in the past Olympic Games. This article divides the changes of the setting in summer Olympic Games into four phases, namely: the exploring of the events (1896-1916); the gradual regularization of the events (1920-1944 ); the booming of the events (1948-1980 ); the plurality of the events (1984-now) .The study of this article indicates that, the factors that influences the item addition and deletion includes:1 .The development of the Olympic itself. During the developing process of the Olympics, the 3 main supporting institutions were not complete at the beginning, and the international sports organizations were just starting to develop. Besides, the early host countries had to hold the Olympics with their own experience. Consequently, the completion item setting had some irregularities; in the different phases of the event's development, the host countries would often try to add their dominant games to and delete their weak events from the Olympics; with the gradual regulation of Olympics, the popularity and application procedure become important factors that would decide whether an event could enter the Olympic family; recently, as the scale of the Olympics is getting increasingly larger, the restrictions from the IOC are affecting the event's item addition and deletion.2.The influence from world's feminist movement. During the developing process of Olympic Games over the last 100 years, the history of women's participation in Olympics also experienced 3 climaxes of world's feminist movement. The process of this struggle caused a turning of the Olympics. It was changed from religious, closed and men exclusive in the past to civilized, open and bisexual at present. This promoted the development of the Olympics. In the new era, although the economy is still unbalanced in developing countries and districts, the religion is still influencing the event, the systems still need improving and the problems of the women themselves still dedicates a long way for woman to go if they want to participate in the Olympic games. However, to realize the goal of men and women's 50-50 participation, the IOC and other relative institutions must stick to the current policy, providing opportunity for women to be better and fairer in sports events.3.The globalization and professionalization of sports' development. The tendency of cultural diversification is the universal problem in the process of globalization. When Olympics starts its process of diversification, the Eastern culture should be the first element to be absorbed, for only the fusion of both Western and Eastern cultures can realize the real cultural diversification. The Olympic games, with its contents representing the Western culture, the Western sports culture has dominated the whole event, so when considering the cultural diversification, the absorption and fusion of the both cultures should be a historical necessity; although there are some obvious evidence that the principles of non-professionalization and non-commercialization are featured with the idealism of reviving the ancient Olympics, those principles to ensure the purity of modern athletic sports can no longer adapt to the reality. In 1981, the IOC deletion of the amateur exclusive rule from Olympic Charter, together with the IOC's TOP plan since 1985, have decided that whether the events can enter the Olympic family will influence their future living and developing status.
