Consisting of five parts, this essay centers on mathematics teaching. To begin with, it analyses the background. Then by making use of the theory of structuralism and combining his teaching experience in senior middle school for more than ten years with the theories and practice from both at home and broad, the author confirms that the investigative studies on mathematics in senior middle school should be based on the combination of class teaching and investigative studies. Building up three practice patterns for mathematics investigative studies (some class teaching samples provided), putting the patterns to use in class and assessing them by comparing the results of the two different classes, the author proves that these patterns lead to more efficient investigative studies; also, they help to motivate not only students' interest, but also the exploration ability. Meanwhile, certain disadvantages of traditional teaching patterns can be avoided.
