The Tibetan students have a special cultural and language background. Their unique geographic living conditions, long-term closed state and strong religious atmosphere have created their unique way of thinking and memorizing. In their English learning process, especially in the word memory, the Tibetan students face much difficulty in memorizing words for a relatively long time, which obviously makes them lose their confidence in English learning. In order to solve the problem, I analyzed the cultural and language background of the Tibetan students in this paper, to find out how many words they need to learn. I attempted to look for the reasons for reducing the size of the vocabulary to memorize, hoping to enhance the students' confidence and improve their efficiency of memory. In this paper, I also introduce the principles of memory and word memory strategies, which the students are guided to use in their word memory. I made a survey about using those strategies and analyze the survey data to sort out some strategies which are fit for the Tibetan students. The findings yielded by the study are as follow: (1) the Tibetan students like using these strategies most-the Pronunciation Strategy, the Repetition Strategy, the Word List Strategy and the Word Form Analysis Strategy; (2) what the students use least are the Context Strategy, the Memory by Using Strategy, the Associative Strategy and the Strategy Changing.
