With increasing competition in the society, the pace of work, study, employment pressure, 10% -30% of college students in this group held different degrees of mental health problems, the mental health of college students has become a problem which has been paid much attention by Psychologists and the education sectors.At present, the sports major University students and non-sports major University students are the two different groups of general participants that consist of the main body of university students in our country.However, very little comparative study has been established on these two groups of students which focus on the level of students'mental health.So this paper mainly discussed the mental health of intrinsic relevance of the two groups of university students that take part in sports, which is based on the comprehensive survey of the students'mental health and test in sports activities, which has been analyzed on two groups of university students of the similarities and differences between mental health and the formation of the reasons through multi-level, multi-angle comparisons.Investigation and comparison have been approached from the point of view from the qualitative and quantitative parts, which is not only held the important significance to the relationship of sports activities and mental health, but also has theoretical and practical value to develop university students'mental health education objectives and assessment system for the physical education department.The purpose of this study: Test and compare with the similarities and differences of the mental health level between the sports major University Students and non-sports major University Students, indicated the main differences of the two groups, and differences and similarities in psychological health of people at same age groups in our country. Further analyzed the psychological problems to two major groups of students, improve the level of the two groups students'mental health effectively.Methods: by using literature references, questionnaire surveys, psychological testing, mathematical statistics, and other research methods, in accordance with "participation in sports" in the questionnaire, and domestic workers in the measurement of mental health "SCL-90" (mental health self-assessment Scale), a survey and comparison of two university students groups in Jilin Province, do a research on the mental health status and characteristics of similarities and differences in the two groups students and its problems. Conclusions:1.Sports major University Students mental health is relatively better than non-sports major university students. In both of the groups, the overall detection rate of psychological problems occupies 23.77%, which indicates that mental health in both of two group Students are not good, and the university student mental health are even worse.2. Sports major University Students in the "somatization", "forced", "paranoid" and other factors have been at or near the level of mild pain, the mental health level slightly lower than the overall national youth norm; general University Students mental health was lower than the national level of people the same age, "depression", "anxiety," "psychotic", "paranoid" are the current major are main symptoms of mental illness.3. The frequency of participation in sports activities, duration, satisfaction, psychological experience that the four dimensions of mental health has an important the role impact on two groups students'contribution to mental health, many research results have demonstrated that the participation in sports are good for the mental health of college students, this study provided a scientific theory and empirical material for it.
