Our teaching in class must not only emphasize knowledge acceptance, but also help students to master the way to learn new knowledge and technology. We need to pay more attention to cultivating students'ability as autonomous learners, which not only has a direct influence on their learning in school, but also play a crucial role in their future life as well.As a subject with the characteristics of practicability, interest and utility, information technology has its unique advantages in carrying out autonomous learning. With the help of the Internet and multimedia technology, there are more interactions between teachers and students, which provide greater space for autonomous learning and offer convenient learning opportunities and abundant teaching facilities and resources. Thus, research on cultivating students'ability as autonomous learners in junior middle school information technology classes has become the focus of the thesis. This thesis first reviews theories related to autonomous learning, and on that basis, it analyzes the main factors that influence autonomous learning and offers evaluation methods for autonomous learning. According to the characteristics of junior middle school information technology, the thesis focuses on the changes of the course and its advantages in cultivating students'ability of autonomous learning, analyses junior middle school students'psychological characteristics and appropriate teaching strategies and from practical work, sum up the four steps in cultivating students'learner autonomy in information technology class: teachers'action, students'motivation, teacher-student interaction and students'autonomy. On the basis of the theoretic studies, the experiment on learner autonomy in junior information technology class is carried out. First, starting from classroom teaching, two classes are selected to carry out a comparison experiment in one term. In the experimental class, the teacher adopts effective teaching methods of learner autonomy to teach students'methods and strategies of autonomous learning, but in the comparison class, the teacher still uses the traditional teaching methods. The experiment data is carefully collected and analyzed. The experiment result shows that the effective using of strategies of autonomous teaching and learning can improve the students' autonomous learning ability. Second, the teacher extends the teaching practice to after school activities in which students'autonomous learning ability is promoted through various integrated projects.
