An Empirical Study On The Occupational Status Attainment Of Uygur Urban Residents In Urumqi

This study analyses the impact of the factors for urban residents in Urumqi Uygur occupational status attainment ,and tests the applicability and validity of the ascriptive principle and the acchivement principle in the theory of the status attainment research.Status attainment research has been an important area in the sociological study,and the ascriptive principle and the acchivement principle are the basic assumptions and classical proposition. The ascriptive principle supposes that the individual's family background and family origin can determine the social status.On the contrary, the acchivement principle that the acquired efforts is the key effective factor to determine the social status ,for example ,taking a high educational qualification.At present the domestic academic community takes few concerns on the Uygur group, and the research results on social stratification and social mobility concerning the Uygur group are very few. This study uses the most basic status of research framework to Preliminarily analyse the social status attainment mechanism, and to explore the applicability of the two priciples.The data is from a survy in Urumqi,which uses random sampling methods and gets the information from 800 urban residents. The study uses a data analysis method named Multiple Logistic Regression.The conclusions are: for urban residents, the ascriptive principle and the acchivement principle have an impact on occupational status attainment.That is to say , the ascriptive principle and the acchivement principle can explain the social status attainment mechanism.
