Research On Mongolian Adolescents' Ethnic Identity

Based on oversea and inland scales on ethnic identity, gathering items, and test(N=364),we developed a formal Ethnic Identity Scale of Mongolian adolescents .In formal test,we investigated the sample consisted of 759 Mongolian adolescents in Inner Mongolia. The research had discussed the relationship between ethnic identity and ethnic differentiation,explored whether sex , grade , parents'ethnic membership , the educational attainment of parents,the number of Han friends , the language using in daily,studying in national school et al,have influence on the ethnic identity and ethnic differentiation.The resulte were:(1)The ethnic identity scale of Mongolian adolescents has a good reliability and validity.The ethnic identity scale of Mongolian adolescents including two sub-scale:Ethnic identity scale,including 36 items, mainly involved three dimensions:cognition,feeling and behavior. The ethnic differentiation scale including 15 items, mainly involved two dimensions:The cognition and emotion of ethnic differentiation,the behavior of ethnic differentiation.(2)The result suggested that there is a significant difference between Mongolian boys and girls in terms of cognition, behavior dimentions and ethnic identity,and the former is higher than the latter.(3)The educational attainment of parents is positively related to their level of ethnic identity.(4)There is a significant difference among different parents'ethnic membership in terms of ethnic differentiation , Mongolian parents had lower scores than Chinese parents.(5)The language using in daily have remarkable influence on ethnic identity and ethnic differentiation of Mongolian adolescents. The adolescents who only using Mongolian had higher ethnic identity than the adolescents using both Mongolian and Chinese and the adolescents who only using Chinese.The language using in daily can also forecast ethnic differentiation of Mongolian adolescents ,the adolescents who only using Mongolian had higher ethnic differentiation than the adolescents using both Mongolian and Chinese and the adolescents who only using Chinese.(6)The number of Han friends of Mongolian adolescents had remarkable influence on ethnic differentiation ,the more the Han friends they had,the less the ethnic differentiation they had.(7)Ethnic identity of Mongolian adolescents approve along with the grade increasing, ethnic differentiation's scores of Mongolian adolescents in junior one was highest.(8)Ethnic identity and ethnic differentiation had significant negative correlation.
