Objectives: To learn the anxiety and depression and related influence factors of the full-time self-taught students in Central South University, and then to make the persons concerned take relavant preventive measure to improve the mental status of the self-taught students.Methods: Using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale , Self-rating Depression Scale, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List, Social Support Rating Scale and self-designed questionnaire to sample survey the students above mentioned, and to survey the average situation, anxiety and depression state, the frequency and intensity of the negative life events and the feature of social support, meanwhile to input the fundamental condition of the respondents and the result of each scale into the software SPSS16.0 and set up database file to analyze their anxiety,depression state and influence factors.Results:â‘ Self-taught students with the inclination to have anxiety or depression account for 30.60% and 40.79% each.â‘¡The boys' psychological health level is higher than that of the girls; the psychological health level of the students from the city is higher than that of the students from the countryside; compared to students from poor families, those from relatively rich ones enjoy better psychological health .â‘¢Between students inclining to have psychological problems and those have no psychological problems, there is marked difference in the scores of stimulation from negative life events of juveniles and scores of social support.â‘£As the results of the unconditional logistic regression analysis show, risk factors which may increase the possibilities of self-taught students' psychological problems are the conflicts of interpersonal relations, health related negative life events and the students from rural area; protective factors which can reduce the possibilities of self-taught students' psychological problems are the more subjective and objective support and the higher availability of the support from the society.Conclusions: In a word, we have no reason to be optimistic about the mental heath of the self-taught students in this school.Their psychological problems are related to the individuality of each student as well as the particularity of the self-taught education itself. Therefore, we, as educationalists, should take specific methods of educational consultation according to gender, house residence and economic condition of each student to help them maintain healthy mental state and guard against various psychological problems, which aims to help them build sound character and finish schooling successfully.
