Cultural change is a research task for cultural anthropology which has the most sense of the times. Ethnologists turned their emphasis from the theory of social form to concrete cultural phenomenon and the process of modernization of every nationality from the beginning of 20th century, and lots of applied achievements about national culture and social development came forth. However, due to lack of in-depth investigation and theoretical research, there is still weak on the study of social and cultural development and change of Xibo nationality. On the reason of history, Xibo nationality formed the pattern of which some lived together over vast areas while some lived in individual concentrated communities in small areas. Being scattered in northeast and northwest China, although they belong to same nationality, they have particular cultural characteristics because of different terrain environment. By the means of anthropology, ethnology and social statistics, the essay starts with Xibo nationality's material and spiritual culture to summarize and analyze the objects of investigation based on field survey and literature collections, then accordingly expatiates on status quo of cultural change between northeast and northwest Xibo nationality and analyze its reason and characteristics. Considering the discrepancy of terrain, language, religion, custom, and so on, the causes which lead to cultural change are inner and outer factors in general which in various reasons. At the same time, face to culture change, cultural consciousness is the impetus of existence and development of national culture. Therefore, national culture can be protected and developed well by absorbing nutrition from another one and fitting the times in order to inspire its inner energy and renew from form, content, concept and so forth.
