In order to survive and develop further in such an increasingly competitive society , universities and colleges will be surely facing the unprecedented challenge. The employment problem after graduation appears more and more serious. So local normal universities should find their own positions in the high education system , make clear development direction, draw up development strategy and create their own school-running characteristics.Thus, the research of school-running characteristics can not only help to promote the reform of universities and colleges in our country, but also to avoid the phenomenon of same simple school-running modes among universities, to pursue individuality, and to improve the quality of school-running as well. The thesis includes five parts: The introduction part gives an overview of the research background and research significance of this paper. It also summarizes and analyzes the experience and research results in the domestic and foreign institutions, which sets realistic foundation for further research. Then in the first part, this paper analyzes the relevant theories such as the theory of Mass Education, the theory of Niche's point, the theory of Origin of Competitiveness, introducing the connotation, the basic characters, main contents and forming process of school-running characteristics, which sets theoretical foundation of this thesis. In the second part, this thesis adopts the comparative method and documents method to analyze the current situation of school-running characteristics of economics majors in local Normal universities. Then it summarizes the main problems and causation of these problems. In the third part, according to the analyses of the problems and its causations as well as references to foreign experiences of school-running characteristics,the paper puts forward some advisable suggestions to strengthen school-running characteristics. By referring to successful experience of advanced countries and by analyzing the essence, character, knowledge and capability of the applied talents,the author generally studies on the applied undergraduate talents cultivating mode in some local academies in China from aspects of orientation of cultivating goals, the teaching plans, curriculum projects, achieving approaches, and security systems. Then the author forms the comparatively systematic framework for cultivating applied undergraduate talents. In the conclusion part, the author summarizes the whole article, and holds that to strengthen school-running characteristics, first we must to establish the concept of characteristics, and form the comparatively systematic framework for cultivating applied undergraduate talents, and then focus on school-running characteristics of cultivating mode, school-running characteristics of research, school-running characteristics of Social services. Build school-running characteristics is a complex process and will require long-term exploration. Although this exploration will have many arguments or twists, objectively it reflects the development direction of local normal university.
