Multimedia Computer-Assisted Language Learning (MCALL) is one of the most important aspects in the research of foreign language teaching and learning. We can best facilitate and motivate students' initiative learning and independent learning. We can also present the learning content in an effective way by taking advantage of multimedia computer's integration of text, sound, graph, image and animation. The application of MCALL to foreign language teaching will inevitably lead to the reform of teaching thoughts and teaching methods. How to improve the students'ability of studying English with modern teaching technology, and the ability of using English are hot issues in recent years. We will explore what the advantages and disadvantages of MCALL are, comparing that with traditional class teaching. The study emphasizes that class activities should be student-oriented and student-centered. And it explores how to apply multimedia technology to the situational teaching of English in senior high schools in theory as well as in practice. This thesis includes seven parts, including an introduction, the main body (five chapters) and a conclusion.Chapter One expatiates the definition of situational teaching, the theories related to MCALL, the development of situational teaching, the definition of MCALL, and the development of MCALL at home and abroad.Chapter Two begins with the purposes of MCALL. The purposes include motivating students' study interest, developing students' independent learning ability, developing students'trans-cultural communicating ability, developing students' cooperative spirit and developing students' processing information ability.Chapter Three illustrates some basic principles of MCALL. MCALL is required to be authentic, multiple, scientific, mutual, interesting and creative.Chapter Four is an introduction to the experiment carried out in the study. The experiment includes experimental aim, experimental object, experimental supposition, experimental design and experimental result.Chapter Five expounds a teaching scheme which is composed of teaching design, teaching object, teaching aim, key points and difficult points in teaching, teaching procedure and reflection.
