Through the investigation and analysis of the students of grade 3 in junior middle school,it is learned that students'achievements directly reflect the use of learning strategies.This dissertation is divided into six parts. The first part illustrates the reasons whylearning strategies in middle school have been paid great attention to. This part mainlyintroduces the necessity, the significance, the purpose and the content of this research. In PartII, a brief survey is firstly offered about relevant studies of learning strategies, concerning theresearch origin, definitions and classification of learning strategies, development of theresearch, and major achievements in the academic realm. With the deepening of discussion,the author introduces the study topic of correlation between learners'learning strategies andtheir achievements. With reference to relevant research results at home and abroad and basedon the author's many years'language teaching practice, the study is aimed at revealing someenlightening conclusion. In the third part, the purpose of the educational study was putforward: the foundation of the study selection and the questionnaire design. The authorsincerely hopes that there will be more English educators in middle schools who have a betterunderstanding of the relations between English learning strategies and their achievements.Part IV analyzes the study results and elaborates on the relations between English learningstrategies and achievements in details. According to the classification of the students, i.e.,excellent students, moderate students and under-achievers, the author analyzes the learningstrategies and their achievements. Generally speaking, Students use more cognitive strategies,meta-cognitive strategies and reading strategies. Concerning the use of learning strategies,there exist some problems, such as unclear understanding, weak conscious awareness, poorusing and so on. The main reasons for using different learning strategies lie in the teachingmode, teaching materials, and education environment and so on. The responsibility ofteachers is not only to impart knowledge, however. More importantly, they should pay greatattention to the cultivation of students'learning strategies. Therefore, teachers should assisttheir students to acquire good learning strategies based on their characteristics. The formationof English learning strategies will affect the students'life-long learning ability, so everyEnglish teacher should be fully aware of its importance. In Part V, based on the results ofthis study, the author proposes her own teaching opinions and the necessity and urgency tochange teaching methods. Aiming at the results of this study, the author also conducts adetailed analysis about how to cultivate and use learning strategies, as well as how to makestudents get good achievements and points out the deficiencies of this study. In Part VI, the author summarizes the conclusions, concerning the surveys, analyses, etc. and it is expectedthat there will be more people who will pay close attention to the research of students'learning strategies in junior middle schools.
