Empirical Investigation Of Uxorilocal Marriage In Contemporary Tibetan

As a supplement of traditional matrimony system, uxorilocal marriage has played a role in marriage history of China. Though it is still in a subordinate place at present, with the social transformation and population changes, uxorilocal marriage will show its importance in our society. This thesis studies on the origin, development of uxorilocal marriage in LaLigou village of Zhuo Ni county of tibetan people in the way of the qualitative research in order to make a further study of the influence and function on marriage and old-age system in China.The thesis consists of five parts:The first part is an introduction which expounds why select the title, what is significance and the study theory and method of the research. The second part summarizes the history and status of uxorilocal marriage, and analyzed the most new research prograss of uxorilocal marriage separately from sociology and demography. The third part is to explain the social and natural environment in the investigated community and sources of data and materials related to this thesis. The fourth part makes a detail description of origin, choosing spouse and arrangements about uxorilocal marriage in LaLigou village so as to elaborate the characteristics of the matrimony scope of Tibetan people, and position of son-in-law, probing further into local cultural influence on living of son-in-law. The fifth part is to make a deep recollect on the uxorilocal marriage and some problems confronted it in LaLigou village.
