Recently, with the rapid development of higher vocational education, the problem to improve the teaching ability has been attracted the concern of scholars and front-line teachers. Look at the status of research on teaching ability, the majority of researches on the structure of teaching ability from the theoretical point of view. Therefore, in this paper, in order to adapt the development of higher vocational education, from the empirical point of view, to discussion what kinds of teaching ability and its structure which the higher vocational college teachers needed, what factors affecting the development of teaching ability and in teaching practice, how to improve the teaching ability of teachers.Based on the above research question, this paper begins by interpreting the significance and relevance of the status of research. Propose the research framework and ideas of this paper. Clearly based on the important concepts, such as vocational college teachers and teaching ability, adopt the methods of survey and converse, propose the structure of teaching ability: teaching monitoring ability, teaching cognitive ability, teaching operating ability and teaching guidance ability. According to the structure of teaching ability, a questionnaire designed to evaluate the teaching ability of the vocational college teachers. After the survey data of the test, the questionnaire has satisfactory reliability and validity. Survey of some representative of teachers in Suzhou vocational college, the results showed that the outstanding teaching ability of teachers in Suzhou vocational college is very scarce.Through in-depth analysis the questionnaire survey data, acquire the factors which influence the teachers'teaching ability to improve, such as the teacher's personal qualities and teaching ideas and achievement motivation and the organizational culture of schools and social environment. Based on the above of the survey analysis and the theoretical studies, this paper proposes some measures to improve the teaching ability of teachers in Suzhou vocational college. First, vocational teachers should take the initiative to participate in the training, in-depth corporate practical, change concepts of education and master the lifelong learning to improve their own teaching ability. Second, vocational schools should create a comfortable environment and harmonious atmosphere of the organization and perfect the evaluation system for improve the teachers teaching ability. The Government should improve the education policy and provide the moderate funds enhance the teaching ability of the vocational college teachers.
