An Experimental Study On The Construction Of The Psychological Mechanism Model Of "Choking" In Undergraduate Basketball Athletes

"Choking"is a phenomenon of deterioration which appears during the execution of habitual processes of performance under pressure in sports.It is a hot question in the international sport psychology, and researched in abroad earlier than domestic, which is still at the start stage.Based on the"Choking"process theory and previous study, this paper constructs a conceptional model of"Choking"psychological mechanism. Basketball athletes of undergraduate were tested in the experiment of this paper, using the methods of literal reviewing, experimentation, discussion, questionnaire investigating and statistics, and 2×2 two factors within—subjects design of multiple factorial experiment design. The data was gotten and was path analyzed with Structural Equation Model (SEM) of LISREL 8.70, and constructed a model of"Choking"and the personality trait for discussing attention direction and pressure have a effet on the grade,revealing the psychological mechanism of the athletes under the pressure.Moreover, a further study on whether the coping style was the middle variable of personality trait to"Choking"phenomenon or not.The study will help coaches and athletes to know and understand this phenomenon and its mechanism, expecting to afford reference for more study of this domain, and to offer the scientific theoretical basis for selecting material of athletes and preventative study on"Choking".The results have confirmed the research supposition well, and the conclusions are shown as follows:1,The pressure and attention direction have a significant main effect, but their interaction effect are not significant.2,Approach coping style, individual self-consciousness,competitive trait anxiety, will to win and self efficacy were the key factors of"Choking", and predicted ?effectively the"Choking"phenomenon.3,Individual self-consciousness,public self-consciousness have a respectively significant effect on the approach coping style and avoid coping style.4,Approach coping style was the middle variable of individual self-consciousness to"Choking"phenomenon,but approach coping style and void coping style were not the middle variable of competitive trait anxiety to"Choking"phenomenon.
