With the development of basketball, power forwards'technology has become more comprehensive and perfect. The style of their playing is also more flexible and changeable. These players posses qualities of a center's height, a forward's flexibility and a guard's technology. When they make an attack, they can shoot a basket in the long-distance or can take the ball to make a forcible attack. They also have the ability of three-point shot. Further more, they can not only actively participate in the team's fast break, but also assist teammates to score. When in the defense, they are very aggressive when making a positive seal and take possession of a rebounding ball. The attacking style in their defense causes their opponents'errors, such as interception. All of these shows a power forward's important role in one team.In 2007, Yi Jianlian was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks, ranking number six. Thus, following Wang Zhizhi, Battle and Yao Ming, he is the fourth Chinese player who joins into NBA. As we all known, Yao Ming has brought about huge changes to the Chinese basketball, but it is far from enough to only depend on Yao himself. No matter in the world championships or in the Olympics, Chinese team's attack and defense will drop to a lower lever whenever Yao runed out, especially in the forward place. "Basketball is a sport of group-work with strong confrontation, which requires players must work together closely in the game."[1]Yao Ming's personal comprehensive skill cannot support the whole team. Thus there must be a helper to solve the problems when Yao is absent, like a unitary means of attack, weak defense, as well as the disconnection of the inside and the outside lines. Yi Jianlian made up the shortcoming in this regard.In this paper, the author uses literature and data, video observation, interviews, mathematical statistics, logical analysis and other research methods to study and analyze Yi's body shape, physical attack and defense patterns after three seasons in NBA, comparing to NBA's 15 best power forwards'relative aspects, and to find out his strengths and weakness thereof. And in accordance with Yi's physical condition and technical characteristics, the author formulates a reasonable tactic, and thus gives full play to the characteristics of Yi Jianlian. Meanwhile, the author provides some ideas for the development of the Chinese national team.The conclusion shows that: (1) compared to the best NBA power forward, Yi Jianlian's body shape, that is Clayto index increased from 532.4 when just joined the NBA's to the current 537.7, ranking number nine in the table, and his height and weight basically reached the levels of the excellent NBA power forward. (2) compared to the statistics in these seasons, Yi Jianlian got a rather high figures, suggesting that Yi Jianlian has been available to the excellent striker. (3) With a high shot in three-point shots and penalty kicks, Yi Jianlian bacically reaches to the level of being an excellent NBA power forward. However, there is a larger gap between his two-point shots and that of excellent NBA power forward players (4) Yi Jianlian has a good sense of shooting, but his scoring pattern is relatively simple, mainly use fixed-point jump shot technique, lack of adaptability and his characteristics of flexibility did not show. (5) Yi Jianlian's ability to confront is poor in particular and is lack of upper body strength, which indirectly affect his scoring, rebounded, turnovers and fouls.By comparing Yi Jianlian with other good strikers, as well as combining his own characteristics, this paper puts forward the following proposals: (1) to strengthen strength training, especially the training for upper body strength. (2) to improve the awareness of defense, especially the counter awareness by strengthening the pace practice. (3) to strengthen the training of basic skills, especially ball-handling skills. (4) to enhance the ball pass awareness, the sense of observation and team cooperation. (5) to strengthen psychological training to improve the psychological quality and alleviate the pressure from all sides. (6)Establish a sense of self-protection to prevent injury worries as far as possible to protect himself.
