The Frenchman Gabriel ? Arnold first put forward the idea of the creation of the European Champions League in 1955, and UEFA Executive Committee held a meeting and invited all the clubs which are interested in ECL to participate in the meeting in Paris in May 21 of the same year. UEFA decided that it would organize the contest and rename as the European Champions League instead of the original European Club Championship. The semi-final round-robin group was introduced in the European Champions League in 1992, and the game was renamed as the UEFA Champions League, nevertheless, people are still used to call the European Champions League. European Champions League is now the highest level football club tournament in the world, including almost the best teams and players all over the world, representing the highest level of modern football, especially in the use of defensive techniques and tactics are at a high level.AFC Champions League is the top soccer club events in Asia, representing the highest level of Asian football clubs. Chinese Club has been involved in this event, in which Liaoning Football Club won the tournament title in 1990. It became the first Chinese football team that won a intercontinental cup title in Chinese football history. However, comparing with the European football and world football, Chinese football has to be improved in many aspects. In this thesis, the author aims to find the disadvantages of Asian football teams by analyzing the technical and tactical of the last eight teams in the European Champions League and the AFC Champions League. Meanwhile, there are four Chinese teams participating in the AFC Champions League. They represent the highest level of football clubs in China .By comparing with the other teams, the author hopes to find out the disadvantages, further more, to find out what league teams can do to make progress. Chinese teams also can learn from advanced technical of European clubs and tactical defensive philosophy. The author gave some suggestions on how to improve in training and competition in order to improve the tactics of Chinese football team and promote the development of Chinese football.In this thesis, the author takes twenty-six matches of the last eight football teams of the UEFA Champions League in 2008~2009 sport competition season and the 2009 sport competition season of the AFC Champions League as the research objects. By means of library research, expert interviews, statistical observation and mathematical statistics, the author draw the conclusion as follows:(1) The tackle of the last eight teams of AFC Champions League is different from that of the UEFA Champions League. Tackles in the games of the last eight teams in AFC Champions League are more than that in UEFA Champions League. However, there is no significant difference between their success rates of tackles. Tackle is one of the effective defensive tactics. The success rate of tackle in AFC Champions League is less than that in the UEFA Champions League(2) In the times and success rates of interception, there is a great gap between the two. The last eight teams in UEFA Champions League do much better than the AFC Champions League. In the meantime, the success rate of UEFA Champions League is higher.(3) In the times and the success rate of slide tackle, there is no significant difference between the two research objects. The statistics of the two are almost the same.(4) In the times and success rates of blocking the ball, there is no significant difference between the two subjects. However, there is disparity between the last eight teams of AFC Champions League and that of the UEFA Champions League. Since the effective blocking the ball of the last eight teams in AFC Champions League is less than that of the other league. It has been showed in the more times but lower success rates in blocking the ball.(5) In the times of flying header, there is significant difference between the two. However, there is no significant difference between the two in the success rates. The last eight of UEFA Champions League have fewer times flying header while have higher success rates of it.(6) In the times and success rates of folder challenge for the ball, there is no significant difference between the two. The last eight teams of UEFA Champions League have more times of folder challenge of the ball and higher success rate, which shows their higher defensive capabilities.(7) Comparing the defensive technical qualifications of the two research objects, the research shows that the last eight teams of UEFA Champions League have less times of defensive technical qualification while their success rates are higher. That is to say the defensive efficiency of the last eight teams in UEFA Champions League is higher.(8) In the times utilization of defensive regional, there are some differences between the two research objects. In the front court and midfield, the times of defensive of the last eight teams of the UEFA Champions League are more than that of AFC Champions League. As for the times of defensive in the back court, the last eight teams of AFC Champions League are more than that of the UEFA Champions League.(9) In the times and success rate of utilization of defensive tactics of the two research objects, there are some differences in some degree. The last eight teams of the UEFA Champions League have more flying headers, the highest success rate is in interception; the last eight teams of AFC Champions League tackle more in the games while the highest success rate is in flying headers.(10) In the region of defensive tactics, there are some differences between the two. The last eight teams of UEFA Champions League use tackle the most in front court while Asian teams use challenge for the ball most. As for other various defensive techniques, the two research objects use them in the same defensive tactics region. In the front court use flying header is used the most; the folder challenge for the ball is used the least; tackle is used most in the midfield and the blocking the ball is used the least; the flying header is used the least in the front court.
