As an essential part of the Tractor-implement Combination Laboratory Simulation System, the automatic hitch control system presented here is to maximize the work-output of tractor-implement combinations and minimize its fuel consumption. A control scheme of the hitch sub-system was developed and it is realized by a single chip processor system, which can communicate freely with other sub-systems. Based on the indoor simulation hypothesis established in this paper, an experiment mechanism was designed. The new electrohydraulic system, which adapts an electrohydraulic proportion valve, replaced the old hydraulic system. After comparing several kinds of control methods, the paper prefers the slip-draft combined control mode. The stability and the dynamic performance of the system are analyzed through MATLAB software. A real-time controller based on MCS-96 microcomputer was developed, which can monitor the performance of the experimented tractor and it抯 also able of exchanging data with other sub-systems. The characteristics of this control system were verified by tests conducted on the FIAT-780 tractor.
