Speech communication is one of the most prevalent and twortantcommunication ways. With people striding fOrward information teclmology andInfobaIm, multimedia communications \ Intemet communications' satellitecommunications. cellular mobile communications and all kinds of conferencecalls require more advanced speech coding teclmology. ITUT Recommendation8kb/S CS-ACELP was approved in March, l996,which quality is not worse than32 kb/s ADPCM. Many communication companies are researching practicalsoftware and hardware of G.729. Though G.729 isn't used in worldwidecommunication, it may be put into practice in some locaI or professional netWorks.In fact, G.729 has been used in the field of data traffc, such as IP phone andH.323 multimedia communication systems. Therefore G.729 will be lucubrated inthe thesis. The main contents in this paper are as follows:l. The thesis analyses and acAnowledge G.729 standard. Makes anemulation investigation on computer and assess speech quality.2. Some key teclmiques are studied in G.729 standard. One is the relationbetWeen long-term prediction and short-term prediction, another is the differencebetWeen the surd and sonant in linear prediction, robust of message sourceencoding is also researched.3. Lastly the Anplementation of the codec on TMS320C5402 is completed,and the main advantages and featUres of TMS320C5402 are introduced. Some keyquestions of the program designing is analyzed and resolved. The result showsthat the chip is fit for the imPlementation of G.729 standard.
