Making use of the advantage of computer in the aspect of visual virtual object and interactive function, virtual prototype technique can make modeling and analyze production in many aspect, such as geometry, function and manufacture and so on. The virtual prototype can reflect some characteristics of real production, including appearance, interspace relation, kinematics and kinetic. It can assure developing excellent production by the feedback information in the virtual prototype design process.Based on the intimate understanding of recent development of CAD and the analysis of current modern design method, the concept of hydraulic virtual prototype technique is put forward. The quality of products can be improved, the period of designing and developing can be cut short and the production cost can be reduced when the virtual prototype technique is adopted. The significance in practice of developing this kind technique is discussed in this paper. Centered on developing hydraulic virtual prototype, some key points have been analyzed. First, the idea of component object model (COM) applied in software developing is studied. Based on the three-dimensional model software ?Solid Edge, the developing thinking of designing the hydraulic virtual prototype is formed, which combines the analyzed functions of some imitation software such as ANSYS and MATLAB. Then, the basic frame of this software system is determined. Second, in accordance with the flexible and complex characteristics, the structure designing process for non-standard work-piece like integrated value in hydraulic system under three-dimensional virtual assembly environment is put forward, which is from rough to precise and from top to bottom. The difficulty with layout of integrated value pieces and pipelines is completely solved. Third, the software with using VB programming language is accomplished, which realizes the supplementary establishment for hydraulic system from principle draft to three-dimensional drawing model, then to hydraulic virtual prototype with the aim of experimental imitation. Finally, the virtual prototype designing practice to servo-cylinder test platform in cold rolled factory of PanZhiHua iron & steel company is carried on. The three-dimensional prototype of test platform is established; the design for hydraulic integrated value pieces and the reasonable layout of pipelines are finished; the imitation test of test platform and the limited unit analysis to the forces which test platform stand received are also carried on. The satisfying results are acquired through preliminary correction and test. Due to the complex character and basic nature, the superficial exploration for developing the software of hydraulic virtual prototype has been carried on in this paper.
