In NDT fields, ICT (industrial computed tomography) can get the 2D tomogram and the technician can get the information of the location, the shape and the area of the details. However, until now, most of the traditional ICT facility can only get the 2D information which might be very limited to determine the perfect spatial location and the exact area of the details. Therefore, there is a need to reconstruct 3D images.The present research status and some methodologies about the 3D Reconstruction and Visualization are introduced in this paper, while three important contents, i.e., image pre-processing, 3D Reconstruction and 3D reveal are more concerned. Image pre-processing includes interpolating, filtering, gray adjusting, rotating, zooming, selecting VOI and reducing elements which are very important for the next step. The work of this paper use Marching Cubes (MC) algorithm to reconstruct the 3D object after analyzing the volume rendering method and the surface rendering method. In 3D reveal step, it has realized the peeled display, rotating and iso-surface display.An algorithm has been designed to peel off the outer layer of the 3D object that is rebuilt in Matlab. This algorithm is based on the edge detector.The reconstructed 3D object can be rotated and zoomed in a PC software system.
