Based on an overview of the development of video compression standard and the technology involved, the video compression system for the low-bit rate and low-delay application is studied in this thesis.With the theory of wavelet transform and reversible integer-to-integer wavelet transforms based on shifting frame used in image/video compression field introduced, A new real-time implement of SPECK algorithm using DSP chip is provided. Then the technology of motion estimation and motion compensation is discussed and an adaptive technique for the wavelet video codec to reduce the "block artifact" is presented. And the implement of the wavelet video compression system using ADV611 chip is discussed next with the performance emulation result. Finally, a solution of real-time video codec with very low delay using DSP chip is provided with its hardware-realization project and the experimental results related will be discussed .
