Research Of The SOAP Based Network Management System

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is the most widely deployed management technology for internet management. But it is costly, time-consuming, and difficult to develop large scale management application because of the need of specialist.Recently, XML-based network management, which applies XML related technologies to network management, has been proposed as an alternative or a complement to the existing network management. XML provides powerful modeling features for structured management information in network management. The network management application can be easily implemented using standard API and freely available software.SOAP is a lightweight protocol for exchange of information in a decentralized, distributed environment. It is a good choice to use SOAP to exchange management information encoded in XML.This thesis proposed SOAP-Based Network Management System based on the result of research of XML based network management. XML is used to encode management information and SOAP over HTTP is used as transportation protocol. WSDL is used to define management operation. Because of plenty of implementation of XML and SOAP specification and wide usage of XML and SOAP, it is more easily to implement network management application.
