Multimedia videoconference system combined computer and communications technology, which provide an environment of intercommunion, discussion and computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) by the multimedia and communication technology. The result will be "What you see is what I see"(Wysiw!s). Apply the videoconference to the community medicine system or the big hospitals of intelligent community have become the new application. This paper design and implement a JMF-based video medicine system by research of multimedia videoconferencing technology, which people can communicate through many methods, such as video, audio, image, text etc.The main research work can be summarized as follows:1 . The demand of real-time performance is much higher in video medicine than normal videoconference. In view of assuring the real-time performance of system, the paper build different virtual channel for video and audio, which take charge different multimedia information to transmit. The relative parameter is appended to the virtual channel according to what kind of information it transmits, which helps to advance the transmission efficiency of the relative information, moreover it will contribute to the whole performance of the system.2. This thesis focuses on the structure of JAMF and the video, audio compression andtransmission theory of videoconference, and also applies the MPEG4 to thecompression of video. HMF can be expanded freely to support the new content andformat, which help to implement the better compression effect.3. This thesis addressed the hardware structure and software module in detail, andintroduced the key implementation technology of programme.4. The system adopted object-oriented programming method, which enhanced the independency, autonomy, reusability and easy maintainability of the programme code. Multithreading technology improved the efficiency of programme. 5 . In the designing of the white-board we adopted a mode of combined multicast and principal & subordinate, which is helpful to assure the requirement includes real-time performance, consistency and reliability.-2-The system we implemented in this paper is a part of Community Medicine System, which runs well now.
