Firstly, the technique of virtual reality which is considered as the computer operate platform in 21st century is introduced. Based on the technologies such as geometric modeling, interactive menu, parallel processing and intelligenti zed simulation, it has developed rapidly recently.Then, an initial developing platform to build up chemical process simulation is studied ground on the technique of virtual reality. The aim is to provide a object-oriented programming environment which could offer 3D modles.With the interactive support of modeling language VRML,platform-i ndependent programming language Java and web language HTML, the chemical process simulation platform is set up. The solutions to produce 3d models, control detailed level and visualize the results are discussed in detail in the thesis. Also, elementary researches on the distributed collaborative virtual environment have been carried on. On the basis of its archetype, a design frame about the realization of virtual reality collaborative system is presented, which provides its architecture and implementation solutions.Finally, the summary about the problems of virtual object collision, which occurred during the interaction between the virtual reality users and virtual objects, is made. Some theoretical analysis aimed on how to detect precisely the collision and to respond correctly are carried out.
